Article: The Commando sole in Summer

We no longer need to introduce it, the Commando sole has found a special place in our wardrobes in recent years. While it is true that it appears at first glance to be reserved for cold and rainy seasons thanks to its insulating and adhesive properties, it also turns out to be a great ally for sunny days.

A SOLE WITH TECHNICAL PROPERTIES... BUT NOT THAT!

The Commando Vibram sole is a rubber sole, made in Italy, which has natural grip and insulation characteristics.

This is how we naturally declined it on the flagship models of our winter collections, in particular the ankle boots: the Basile Commando , the large camber of our House, the Tobar Commando , the iconic 7L ankle boot with triple buckle or the Moissac Commando, the flagship model of every winter.

The history of Vibram soles

We have retraced the history of this Italian sole in our Journal which we invite you to (re)discover to find out everything about this legendary Italian brand:

But the interest of a Commando sole does not stop at its technical attributes alone. It gives a more adventurous and more assertive look to the shoes it adorns, a look that has seduced many of us. It would therefore be a shame to deprive yourself of it in spring, and even in summer!

AN OPTIMIZED SUMMER CHANGE

For a more summery version, we opted for the Vibram Gumlite .

The rubber used is expanded, making it 40% lighter than traditional rubber. Walking is then more flexible and airy.

However, the sole remains faithful to the reputation of the House and also has the same insulating and gripping properties as the classic Vibram.

However, a question arises: do we really need a highly grippy sole in the middle of summer? The weather is in fact generally milder (unless you are lucky enough to live in Paris, that is) and it is classic to prefer a smooth leather sole, thinner, lighter and less hot, especially on unlined moccasins. which will thus present great flexibility.

Valery from Jamais Vulgaire, however, raised a very interesting point during his test of the Vadillo Commando : the comfort of a Commando sole can prove to be a real advantage on vacation for wandering around town or elsewhere, on unaccommodating floors such as paving stones.

During the last Pitti Uomo, he was able to walk the cobblestones of Florence under 35 degrees Vadillo on his feet and concludes a “ gain in comfort which is well worth the effort ”.

We have also chosen to accompany the Vibram Gumlite sole with Goodyear Comfort Welted stitching for even greater flexibility, while maintaining the solidity and longevity of the assembly.

We advise you to wearinvisible socks with your shoes for greater comfort, although it is also possible to wear them barefoot.

OPT FOR THE COMMANDO IN ANY SEASON

Although the Gumlite sole comes from our Spring-Summer collections, the models featuring it are still just as easy to wear once autumn arrives.

The intrinsic properties of the Vibram Gumlite sole are indeed an asset that allow it to easily cross the seasons. The first rains or drops in temperature will not be able to get the better of it.

Furthermore, the leathers that accompany it also have naturally water-repellent properties. We are thinking here in particular of Veau Velours from the Stead tannery and the Sciarada tannery or even Box Calf from the Weinheimer tannery .

A VERSATILE STYLE

the vadillo commando

The tassel moccasin twisted with a Commando sole. If you had to dare it, the result is very conclusive: it can be worn with pleated pants as well as with a suit (and yes, the Commando sole and its casual side can be successfully combined with elegance of a costume, no offense to the most purists).

Described as a " particular but successful exercise in style " by Hugo Jacomet, during the episode of Discussions sartoriales where Mathieu Preiss was received, the Vadillo Commando seduces for its mix of genres and its sobriety.

THE GATSBY COMMANDO

Covered in navy suede calfskin calling for sunny days, the House's hunting derby is dressed casually. Its blue tint creates a nice contrast with the notched sole.

THE CLASSIC MOC COMMANDO

We couldn't resist adding the Classic Moc Commando to this selection. Although the latter has a classic Vibram sole and not Gumlite, it nonetheless remains one of those timeless models that can be worn in all circumstances, both in summer and in winter.
